Kalilangan Celebration 2003 is the main festival in General Santos City from Feb. 21 – 27, 2003, highlighted with cultural activities, exhibits of indigenous food, kulintangan showcase, and arts exhibits. This year’s theme “WOW GENSAN” is best captured with a one-man art exhibit of a young Maguindanaon artist dubbed as “PALAMADANI: A Celebration of Roots in Colors.”

Palamadani is the first major exhibit of Al-Nezzar Ali. This will be launched on Feb.21 at Notre Dame of Dadiangas College. Al, the featured artist, is an instructor of Holy Trinity College and an active community theater practitioner and cultural researcher. He belongs to the royal family of Sogoda-Buayan.

PALAMADANI is a unique interactive exhibition where the works are highlighted with performances that play as its extensions. The showcase is a feast of traditional motifs and vibrant okir designs infused with modern perspective amidst the reality of disappearing Moro traditions, as subjects. His intricate patterns and intense colors are the reflections of his dedication in keeping alive his people’s cultural heritage and artistry. Palamadani is the artist expression of his concern with his own people and their role in the future.

Kalilangan Foundation, Inc. (KFI) manages the Kalilangan Foundation Celebration 2003.

This year, I was selected as one of the exhibiting artists in the National Commission for Culture and the Arts February Arts Month 2009 Celebration: Philippine International Arts Festival...My entry is the 'Question of the Dying Traditions'-an old output from the Sungdu-an Arts Tour of 2004...at present I am preparing for the Peace Week Celebration and its Visual Arts Component: the Likusan Tapestry of Peace Exhibit...tentative dates will be on the first week of December...here in Gensan city...

2009 and its opening gave this artist more opportunities and exposure in the fields of visual arts and because of the super busy time schedules, I almost forgot that I have a blog to update and enhanced. I was engrossed with the so many activities, especially at Holy Trinity College because of our celebration of the 25 Years Foundation all through out the year. Workshop facilitating, lectures in the arts, and of course the many judging all over.

"Bai-a-Potri"

TITLE: BAI A POTRI
MEDIUM: MIXED-MEDIA SIZE: 3’X4’
TRADITION-INSPIRATION: the highest title ascribed to a lady, usually a wife of a raja or a ruling sultan. She is always accompanied by her retinue of maids and wears the badak-rice powder to protect her face and exposed skin against the sun. Raja Potri is another name or title given to the wife or consort of the reigning ruler or sultan.

This work also represents the women in the noble houses where they are ascribed the highest honor and special treatment. They are the model of the best of conduct, decorum and refinement expected of a lady of high breeding. However, women in Moro society are seen to be dominant with some degree of influence over the affairs of men. In fact, after their first marriage, they can already take many husbands at a time. There are also families that are matriarchal and women voices are dominant.
